Day tour visiting the highlights of the stunning Westman Islands.
Experience the Westman Islands in a friendly and personal way with a local guide, who will take you around the whole island. The tour starts by going to Sprangan, where your guide will show you his amazing spranga skills, which basically means swinging from the cliff on a rope! You might even get a chance to try it too, if you’re feeling brave!
You will get to explore the whole island and see, among other things, Icelandic sheep, horses and puffins. Hot spots in Heimaey, such as Herjólfsdalur and Stórhöfði (the windiest place in Europe) will be visited and you will get to hear some amazing stories about the beautiful island, while gaining some insight into the islanders’ culture.
In the middle of the volcano Eldfell, where everything started, you will get to hear the whole story of the 1973 eruption and your guide will tell you his personal story about how the eruption affected his family back then.
At the end of the tour you will visit two amazing museums on the island. At the Sæheimar Aquarium you will get to hold and pet the live puffin, Tóti. The last stop will be at the Eldheimar exhibition, which focuses on the 1973 eruption – an enthralling story and a great way to learn about and experience this dramatic event.
You will have some free time to explore the island on your own for approx. 3 hours.
